Voluntary Self Identification For Veterans' Preference

Applicants for a covered position are invited to self-identify as eligible for veterans' preference. Self-identification is voluntary and the information is requested by CBO solely for the purpose of complying with the agency's obligations and efforts to provide veterans' preference to eligible applicants in accordance with the Veterans Employment Opportunity Act of 1998 (VEOA) as made applicable to CBO by regulations promulgated under Section 4(c) of that act and approved by Congress in accordance with the Congressional Accountability Act of 1995, amended.

Are you self-identifying as eligible for veterans’ preference under the VEOA?

An applicant claiming eligibility for veteran's preference must submit a completed Veterans' Preference Eligibility Form together with the supporting documentation specified on that form. This documentation should be sent by e-mail to VEOA@cbo.gov or faxed to (800) 506-8286 and should not be uploaded as part of this application. The form and documentation must be submitted within a reasonable time after the date the application was submitted, but no later than 2 weeks after such time. The Human Resources Office may extend the deadline upon request of the applicant and for good reason. If CBO does not receive a completed Veterans' Preference Eligibility Form and the appropriate supporting documentation within this time frame, the applicant's claim for eligibility for veterans' preference may be denied.

Applicants may obtain a copy of CBO's Veterans' Preference in Appointments policy by submitting a written request to careers@cbo.gov.

NOTICE FOR DISABLED VETERANS An applicant's status as a disabled veteran and all information and documentation regarding the applicant's disability, including his or her medical condition or medical history, obtained by CBO will be kept confidential and will be collected, maintained, and used only in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (42 U.S.C. §12101 et seq.) as applicable under Section 102(a)(3) of the Congressional Accountability Act of 1995, amended (2 U.S.C. §1302(a)(3)). An applicant who declines to self-identify as eligible for preference as a disabled veteran or who refuses to provide information or documentation regarding that status will not be adversely affected by that action except for a possible adverse determination of the individual's status as eligible.
